Probable DNA dC->dU-editing enzyme APOBEC-3B is a protein that in humans is encoded by the APOBEC3B gene.

This gene is a member of the cytidine deaminase gene family. It is one of seven related genes or pseudogenes found in a cluster, thought to result from gene duplication, on chromosome 22. Members of the cluster encode proteins that are structurally and functionally related to the C to U RNA-editing cytidine deaminase APOBEC1. It is thought that the proteins may be RNA editing enzymes and have roles in growth or cell cycle control. A commonly-found deletion polymorphism of approximately 29.5 kb removes the 3' UTR of the adjacent APOBEC3A gene and the coding region of this gene and creates a hybrid of the two genes. Function: Lacks cytidine deaminase activity, at least on RNA molecules (monomeric nucleoside substrates or synthetic apoB, NF1 and NAT1 RNA template). Binds to apoB and AU-rich RNAs. Unable to reduce HIV-1 infectivity in vitro.
