Synaptotagmin-7 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SYT7 gene. Synaptotagmins, such as SYT7, are brain-specific calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteins that play a role in synaptic exocytosis and neurotransmitter release. See MIM 600782.[supplied by OMIM].
May be involved in Ca(2+)-dependent exocytosis of secretory vesicles through Ca(2+) and phospholipid binding to the C2 domain or may serve as Ca(2+) sensors in the process of vesicular trafficking and exocytosis (By similarity).
