Serine/threonine kinase 11 also known as LKB1 or renal carcinoma antigen NY-REN-19 or is a protein kinase that in humans is encoded by the STK11 gene. This gene, which encodes a member of the serine/threonine kinase family, regulates cell polarity and functions as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in this gene have been associated with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the growth of polyps in the gastrointestinal tract, pigmented macules on the skin and mouth, and other neoplasms. Alternate transcriptional splice variants of this gene have been observed but have not been thoroughly characterized. [provided by RefSeq]. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications.
Essential role in G1 cell cycle arrest. Phosphorylates and activates members of the AMPK-related subfamily of protein kinases. Tumor suppressor.
