Tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the TDO2 gene. Tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (EC 1.13.11.11) plays a role in catalyzing the first and rat-limiting step in the kynurenine pathway, the major pathway of tryptophan metabolism.[supplied by OMIM]. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene record to access additional publications.
Incorporates oxygen into the indole moiety of tryptophan. Has a broad specificity towards tryptamine and derivatives including D- and L-tryptophan, 5-hydroxytryptophan and serotonin (By similarity).
