The protein encoded by this gene is a DNA helicase. A dominant-negative mutant of this protein blocks chromosomal DNA replication and suggests that its function is required for S phase entry. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].
Function: Unwinds duplex DNA with 5'-3' polarity. Has single-strand DNA-dependent ATPase and DNA helicase activities. Prefers ATP and dATP as substrates.
