The 21-kD cAMP-regulated phosphoprotein (ARPP21), also known as regulator of calmodulin (CaM; MIM 114180) signaling (RCS), plays a central role in integration of key neurotransmitter inputs into medium spiny neurons through its regulation of CaM-dependent kinase I (CaMKI) and protein phosphatase-2B (PP2B) (Rakhilin et al., 2004 (PubMed 15499021)).(supplied by OMIM)
Function: Isoform 2 may act as a competitive inhibitor of calmodulin-dependent enzymes such as calcineurin in neurons (By similarity).
